Brakes
When should you replace your brake pads?

Your brakes are one of the most important systems on your vehicle. They work hard every time you drive, and like any component exposed to regular wear, they eventually need attention.
The tricky part is knowing when that time has arrived.
Signs your brake pads may be worn
Squealing or grinding
A high-pitched squeal can be an early warning that your brake pads are getting low. Grinding is more serious and can mean the friction material has worn away completely.
Longer stopping distances
If your vehicle doesn't stop as quickly as it used to, don't ignore the difference. Reduced braking performance can have several causes, including worn pads, contaminated components or other brake-system problems.
Vibration when braking
A vibrating steering wheel or brake pedal can indicate an issue with the braking system. It may be related to uneven brake components, but an inspection is needed to determine the cause.
How long do brake pads last?
There's no single mileage number that applies to every vehicle.
Your driving style, traffic conditions, vehicle weight and the type of brake pads all affect how quickly they wear. Frequent stop-and-go driving, for example, generally puts more demand on your brakes than long stretches of highway driving.
What happens if you wait too long?
Brake pads are designed to protect other components of the braking system. Once they're excessively worn, continued driving can cause additional damage.
That can turn a relatively straightforward brake-pad replacement into a much larger repair.
“A brake problem isn't something to put off until next month. Your stopping distance matters every time you drive.”
Our approach
When you bring your vehicle in, we inspect the braking system rather than automatically recommending replacement.
We'll explain what we find, what needs attention and how urgent the repair is.
