Maintenance

7 signs your car is overdue for a service

Your car doesn't always break down without warning. In many cases, small changes in the way it sounds, feels or drives can signal that something needs attention.

Regular maintenance helps catch these issues early, before a minor repair becomes a major one.

1. Warning lights keep appearing

Dashboard warning lights are your car's way of telling you something needs to be checked. While some warnings are relatively minor, others can indicate problems with the engine, brakes or electrical system.

Don't simply reset the light and carry on driving. A quick diagnostic check can help identify what's actually causing the problem.

2. Your fuel economy has changed

If you're filling up more often than usual, your car may not be running as efficiently as it should.

Changes in fuel economy can be caused by something as simple as incorrect tyre pressure or a dirty air filter, but they can also point to engine or fuel-system problems.

3. You're hearing unusual noises

Cars naturally make some noise, but new or unusual sounds shouldn't be ignored.

A squeal when braking, a knocking sound from the engine or a humming noise while driving can all provide useful clues about what needs attention.

“The earlier you investigate a strange noise, the more options you usually have for fixing it.”

4. The car doesn't feel the same

Maybe the steering feels heavier, the brakes aren't as responsive or the car pulls slightly to one side.

These changes can happen gradually, which makes them easy to overlook. If your car doesn't feel the way it normally does, it's worth having it inspected.

5. You're struggling to start the car

Slow engine cranking, clicking sounds or repeated difficulty starting can point to a weak battery, starter or charging-system issue.

Getting the problem checked before the battery completely fails can save you from being stranded somewhere inconvenient.

Don't wait for a breakdown

Regular servicing isn't just about changing the oil. It's an opportunity to inspect the parts that keep your vehicle safe and reliable.

If your car is showing any of these signs, book an inspection and let our technicians find the cause before it becomes a bigger problem.
